Baku-APA. The German government on Friday welcomed "round table" talks over the Ukraine crisis which began in the Ukrainian capital Kiev on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"It is a sign of responsibility and considered diplomacy," German government spokesman Steffen Seibert told a news conference on Friday.
A national dialogue in Ukraine, which aims to bring different sides to the table, was the best solution to finding a peaceful way out of the current crisis, Seibert said.
The spokesman added that Chancellor Angela Merkel was glad that talks would continue this weekend in the east Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.
According to Seibert, Merkel and Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk agreed in a telephone conversation Thursday on an "intra-Ukrainian solution" to the crisis, noting that all factions of Ukrainian society, who are ready to renounce violence, would be welcome to the talks.
