Baku-APA. French President Francois Hollande on Thursday announced 11 million euros (14.81 million U.S. dollars) of aid to Gaza where heavy fighting has killed hundreds of civilians, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"To meet the emergency needs of budgetary support and humanitarian aid," Paris offered the aid package, of which 8 million euros is to be devoted to Palestinian authorities and 4 million euros to UN bodies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Gaza.
"This emergency aid is part of France's ongoing commitment alongside the Palestinian Authority," the French president's office said in a communique.
At a recent meeting with UN bodies and NGOs working in the Hamas controlled enclave, NGOs highlighted the gravity of the situation, the scale of the humanitarian needs of the civilian population and the difficulty of humanitarian workers in getting to the victims, the statement added.
