Baku-APA. French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve on Wednesday announced tough measures to prevent French nationals from joining jihadists in Syria and putting at risk domestic security when returning home, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Presenting his anti-Jihad plan at a cabinet meeting, the minister said "we must be armed, vigilant and determined to crack down on radicalized French youth and prevent their recruitment by Islamist cells."
"The anti-jihad plan should prevent departures (to Syria), protect those who are going (for jihad) and our nationals," Cazeneuve told news channel BFMTV.
The bill will allow authorities to ban French nationals, suspected of having ties with jihadist cells, from leaving the country for an indefinite period. It will also give green light to block websites that encourage jihad without a judge's approval.
In order to arrest people who associate with potential militants, investigators will be able to question individuals on a low threshold of evidence.
About 800 French nationals and residents joined the Syrian civil war, with 300 nationals still in the war-torn country and 30 killed so far.
