Deputy Foreign Minister: Iran, P5+1 work on text of agreement, may come to consensus

“There are mixed impressions from the current round. There have been several serious attempts to move on to practical work to compose a draft in its various aspects. But this is not the main point. The main point is that the parameters of the future agreement are being discussed very intensively and are sparkling a lot of disputes. The negotiation logic suggests that if the parties to the talks begin to experience serious problems, the work on the text automatically slows down,” the diplomat said.

“So we are going in circles to some extent and are trying to find a way out of this situation because everyone understands that time is running out and problems may pile up if the current pace continues,” he said.

At the same time, Ryabkov believes that there is hope that the structure and composition of the future document will be agreed.

“It is inspiring that the approaches of the P5+1 group and the Iranian delegation lie in the same plane, that is, there is hope that the structure of the document, its composition and components will eventually be agreed,” Ryabkov said.

“In other words, we will get some general matrix. But we haven’t gone any further than that so far,” he said.
