People’s Deputies appealed to the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany regarding the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people, APA reports citing Perild.
The corresponding solution supported by 331 parliamentarians.
The Verkhovna Rada also asks the Bundestag to provide a political assessment of these events, which will be an important signal for honoring the memory of millions of victims of the crime of the totalitarian regime, making a significant contribution to ensuring a peaceful and secure future for future generations, as well as countering any attempts to diminish the scale or find a justification for the intentions of the Soviet leadership to destroy the Ukrainian people or a significant part of it.
At the same time, the people’s deputies call for the beginning of joint systemic scientific research on the historical role of Germany during the Holodomor, in particular its perception by the German authorities and society, taking into account the close economic contacts between the USSR and Germany in the period 1932-1933, as well as the share of the German minorities on the territory of Soviet Ukraine.
The Rada also appeals to the Bundestag with a proposal to develop interstate cooperation in the restoration of historical memory on the principles of reciprocity, respect and a common desire to achieve historical justice.
It is noted that the Holodomor was directed against the Ukrainians as a nation. This is confirmed by millions of deaths in Ukraine.
