UN peacekeeping missions will be reduced due to financial difficulties, said UN Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix, APA reports.
"We have no choice but to implement these cuts. Because some states are not paying. The international community is divided. Therefore, the possibility of a collective response to crises is decreasing," the UN official said.
Note that UN officials had previously announced a 16-17 percent decrease in funding for peacekeeping missions.
The total amount for UN peacekeeping missions in 2025-2026 was $5.4 billion.
The US was supposed to pay $1.3 billion of this amount, but later announced that it would pay only $682 million.
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that international organizations are abusing America and has reduced financial support for some organizations.
