Ukrainian defense minister Denys Shmyhal stated that Ukraine and the Northern European countries have launched a new Scandinavian-Baltic Initiative aimed at training and equipping the Ukrainian army, APA reports.
At the 31st meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group (UDCG), Shmyhal and Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik signed a Memorandum of Understanding regarding participation in the initiative.
In addition to Ukraine, 9 countries have joined the project- Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, and Sweden.
Norwegian Defense Minister Tore Sandvik stated that the initiative will strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities: “This is an important step among allies to enhance Ukraine's defense strength. The Ukrainian army needs support both in terms of training and equipment, and this cooperation ensures that.”
The main goal of the initiative is to create a unified system for training and equipping Ukrainian forces within the framework of the International Legion Operation, which began in 2024 and will continue until 2026.
