More than half of NATO member states have announced their readiness to join the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, which provides for the purchase of U.S. arms for Ukraine, announced NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at a press conference following a meeting of the Defense Ministers' Contact Group on arms supplies to Kyiv, APA reports.
"There are types of weapons that only the United States can provide, and there is no alternative. This is the so-called PURL initiative. When we began the meeting, six NATO countries participated in this initiative, but after the meeting, more than half of NATO countries—16-17—are ready to join," he said.
Rutte noted that a total of 19 alliance states announced their intention to supply new weapons to Ukraine, either purchased from the US or on a bilateral basis, at a meeting of the Contact Group, but did not specify which weapons were involved.
