In the early hours of September 26, Russia carried out a strike on a traction electrical substation serving the railway infrastructure in the village of Chubivka, Podilskyi district, Odessa region, APA reports, citing mezha.net.
As a result of the strike, Ukrzaliznytsia’s overhead contact line was de-energized, which led to a loss of power on the section and hindered train movements.
Two substation workers took shelter during the air-raid warning. A fire broke out at the scene, promptly extinguished by firefighters from the State Emergency Service.
An air-raid warning was issued in the Odessa region on September 25 at 22:50. According to the defense forces, an aerial attack drone group was moving over the region: initially a drone heading west, then a group of UAVs cruising north. The all-clear signals sounded at 00:29, with a second at 00:37. Later, the region was warned about strike drones to the north, and the all-clear came around 01:04.
Following the incident, specialists continue to gather information to assess the impact on railway traffic and the region’s infrastructure.
Impact on Rail Traffic and Ongoing Service Operations
Loss of power on the overhead line could lead to suspensions or delays on adjacent sections, requiring rapid restoration of power and safety checks of the facilities being served. Firefighters and railway workers are coordinating their response to minimize disruption to transportation and ensure the safety of passengers and cargo.
In the region, work continues to clarify the circumstances of the incident and assess the extent of the damage, as well as to plan for the rapid restoration of stable railway movement and power supply.
Outlook for Restoration
The pace of restoration will depend on the rate of equipment repairs and the results of inspections. The main priorities are safety, restoring normal train movement, and the stability of power supply in the region.
