An erroneous intelligence report prepared using artificial intelligence prompted the US military to prepare an operation against a Chinese vessel, CNN said, APA reports.
During the war with Iran, US military personnel were presented with a report claiming that a Chinese vessel operating in the Middle East was carrying components for a nuclear weapons program.
The information caused serious concern within the US military, and preparations began to seize the vessel.
It was reported that an additional review conducted before the operation began revealed that the report had been prepared by an analyst at the US Special Operations Command with the assistance of an artificial intelligence chatbot. The AI system misinterpreted the vessel's cargo and reached an incorrect conclusion, and the report prepared on the basis of this information was circulated among military personnel.
According to sources, the report was entirely false. Any US military operation against the Chinese vessel could have caused serious military tensions between the two countries.
The incident has reignited discussions about the risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence in the military and intelligence sectors.
