Russian MFA accuses EU and NATO of obstructing US-led Ukraine talks

The Russian Foreign Ministry has accused the leadership of the European Union and NATO of obstructing US diplomatic efforts to resolve the Ukraine conflict, APA reports, citing Izvestia.

The statement was made by Vladislav Maslennikov, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry's Department of European Issues.

According to him, some European politicians have begun to recognize the need to restore relations with Moscow.

However, Maslennikov claimed that the leadership of the EU and NATO, as well as several member states of these organizations, have been trying for months to prevent a settlement of the Ukraine conflict.

"They are obstructing US negotiation efforts while openly claiming that Russia is taking a maximalist position and is not ready for negotiations," the diplomat said.

Maslennikov also questioned what position European countries intend to take in possible peace negotiations.

Referring to statements by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, he questioned whether the European side intends to participate in negotiations with ultimatums.

According to the Russian official, it will be difficult to hold negotiations with European countries without taking the current situation into account.
