French President Emmanuel Macron has stated that he would not appoint a new prime minister if a no-confidence motion is passed against Sebastien Lecornu's government, opting instead to dissolve parliament, APA reports.
The announcement was made, according to the French government’s spokesperson Mod Brejon, in an interview with RFI.
Brejon cited Macron during a meeting of the French Cabinet, saying that any no-confidence proposals against the Lecornu government should be considered as “proposals to dissolve parliament.”
The spokesperson added that Macron noted two no-confidence motions have been introduced against the current government—one by far-right members and the other by far-left members—“which shows that some do not want to engage in discussion.”
