German Chancellor Friedrich Merz held a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, during which the two sides discussed the situation in the Middle East. German cabinet spokesman Sebastian Hille told reporters, APA reports.
"The German Chancellor thanked the Prime Minister for his efforts to broker a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. The two sides exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and agreed that a lasting end to the war is only possible through diplomatic means," Hille noted.
In addition, the interlocutors, according to him, confirmed their mutual desire to further deepen friendly relations between Germany and Pakistan.
