The Constitutional Court of Georgia has been granted the right to prohibit certain individuals from creating parties, APA's local bureau reports.
The country's parliament adopted the amendments to the "Constitutional Court of Georgia" law in the third reading with 81 votes.
According to the amendments, individuals who are members of a party violating the principles of the Constitution of Georgia will no longer be allowed to participate in parliamentary and local elections. They will also be prohibited from holding public office, creating a political party, or being the leader or member of it.
The amendments, initiated by the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, aim to improve the political environment in Georgia and prevent the presence of radical extremist groups that constantly pose a threat to statehood in politics.
