The European Union is working on its 17th sanctions package against Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine. Kyiv hopes that the new set of restrictions will serve as one of the pressure points on Moscow to restore peace. This comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, APA reports citing RBC Ukraine.
Zelenskyy described the meeting as "good" and focused on steps that would help protect the lives of Ukrainians, restore security, and bring about an unconditional ceasefire.
"Special attention was given to the preparation of the EU's 17th sanctions package. It is crucial that this package targets key sectors of the Russian economy and serves as one of the elements of pressure on Russia to restore peace," the Ukrainian president emphasized.
