The preliminary hearing scheduled for tomorrow at the Tbilisi City Court in the case of former Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has been postponed, Amiran Giguashvili told “TV Pirveli”, APA’s local bureau reports.
According to him, the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia applied to the court for the postponement of the trial.
“The Prosecutor’s Office requested additional time to carry out certain investigative actions. The new deadline has been set for February 12,” the lawyer added.
Note that Garibashvili is specifically accused of legalizing large sums of money. On October 24, the Tbilisi City Court imposed a bail of one million lari in his case. Instead of the bail, his apartment in Tbilisi was confiscated.
Recall that Garibashvili served as the Prime Minister of Georgia from 2013 to 2015 and from 2021 to 2024. On February 1, 2024, he was elected head of the ruling “Georgian Dream” party, and on April 25 of this year, he resigned from the position, announcing his withdrawal from politics.
