European Union will not stop the funds allocated for Palestine, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, stated on X, APA reports.
"The reconsideration of EU aid for Palestine announced by the European Commission, as accurately stated in the Commission's press release, will not entail a cessation of necessary payments.
Halting the payments – punishing the entire Palestinian population – would be detrimental to the EU's interests in the region and would only embolden terrorists further," noted Borrell.
Additionally, the European Commission has also released a statement on this matter.
It is stated that the Commission unequivocally condemns HAMAS's acts of terror against Israel over the weekend: "Following these events, the Commission announces today that it has initiated an urgent review of the EU's aid to Palestine."
In addition to the existing provisions, the aim of this approach is to ensure that no EU finances in any way contribute to any terrorist organization carrying out attacks against Israel.
Given the changed conditions in the region, the Commission will equally consider whether adjustments are needed in support programs for the Palestinian population and the Palestinian Authority.
At this time, no payment is envisaged, and therefore there will be no suspension of payments.
This approach does not concern humanitarian aid provided within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism," stated in the statement by the European Commission.
