French President Sarkozy separates from his wife

Rumors of the split have filled France’s often prudish media in recent weeks and the story dominated Thursday’s press, knocking a nationwide transport strike off the front pages.
Cecilia played no public part in her husband’s election campaign this year, did not vote for him in the second round and only appeared fleetingly alongside him at three public engagements since his May victory -- the last time in July.
Cecilia also did not accompany his husband during visit to Bulgaria. Press reports that Cecilia did not support Nicolas Sarkozy in the second round of presidential elections.
49-year old Cecilia had two children in rapid succession but just five years later left her husband for Sarkozy, who was himself married. After securing their respective divorces they finally wed in 1996 and have a 10-year old son together. /APA/
