Hans Gert Pottering elected president of the European Parliament

Hans Gert Pottering has been elected new president of the European Parliament, APA’s bureau reports.
Winning 65 percent of votes, he will take up his position of presidency till 2009. In his first speech as a president, Hans stated that he will act basing on the principles of solidarity of European nations, respect of the law and high value of human dignity. Hans, 61, has been a member of the European Parliament since 1979. After graduating from Bonn University, the faculty of legislation, policy and history, he got his Doctor’s degree in New York University. He has cooperated with EP Christian Democrat Union. /APA/
