Qatar has offered Iran a $12 billion financial package in an effort to break the deadlock in negotiations over the fate of $24 billion in frozen Iranian funds held in Qatari banks, APA's Tehran bureau reports.
According to the Mehr News Agency, the proposal envisages that $6 billion would be provided through the release of Iranian assets frozen in Qatar, while the remaining $6 billion could be extended as a loan or credit line.
At the same time, previously agreed restrictions would remain in force. The released $6 billion could only be used for humanitarian purposes under the 2023 agreement between Iran and the United States.
The additional $6 billion credit line, however, is reportedly expected to be available for Iran's unrestricted use.
