Baku-APA. Ireland’s Prime Minister Enda Kenny on Thursday said that the Irish and US economic relationship is special and one of mutual benefits, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Speaking at the U.S.-Ireland Business Conference, Kenny said that generations of Irish people played their part in the building of the United States and he expressed gratitude to the U.S. for its part in the peace process.

He also said the Irish, U.S. relationship was stronger now than at any time in history.

Kenny said the conference would give consideration to priorities and opportunities for the important task of growing jobs between Ireland and the U.S.

He also said the U.S. was Ireland’s largest direct foreign investor and that Ireland was the thirteenth largest foreign investor in the U.S. with investments totalling 32 billion euro. This, he said, was very significant considering Ireland’s size.

Kenny said Ireland had proven to be a gateway to the rest of Europe for the U.S. and that recent announcements show that Ireland remains an attractive location for doing business.

He said the government would continue to ensure survival and growth by further reducing business costs, accessing credit and driving productivity and innovation.

Kenny said that while the economic situation was challenging on both sides of the Atlantic, Ireland and the U.S. needed to work together more than ever to promote growth and create jobs.
