Baku-APA. Britain’s ability to avoid a recession and its future growth rested on the success of European leaders in tackling the eurozone debt crisis, British Chancellor of the Exchequer (Finance Minister) George Osborne said on Monday, APA reports quoting XInhua.

Speaking at an annual conference of his party, the Conservatives, in the northern industrial city of Manchester, Osborne said eurozone leaders must act quickly to contain the crisis.

"The time to resolve the crisis is now. They have to get out and fix the roof even though it is pouring with rain," he said. "A resolution to the debt crisis would be the biggest boost the British economy could have this autumn."

Osborne called on eurozone leaders and financial institutions to "end speculation, decide what they want to do and stick to it."

In an earlier BBC radio interview, Osborne said eurozone finance ministers, who are scheduled to meet later on Monday in Luxembourg, should agree to increase the size of their current 440-billion-euro bailout fund.
