Baku-APA. Slovenian President Danilo Tuerk said on Wednesday that the parliament will be dissolved on Oct. 21, clearing the way for snap elections in December, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Tuerk made the announcement after the government led by Prime Minister Borut Pahor failed to pass parliamentary vote of confidence on Sept. 20.

The National Assembly should do their work "seriously and responsibly so that voters may reach a good decision on Dec. 4," Tuerk said.

Under the Slovenian constitution, a new parliament needs to be elected within two months after the President dissolves the parliament and calls early elections. The earliest date for the snap elections is expected on Dec. 4.

Pahor, 48, has been leading a minority government since June. He is the third prime minister to be forced to step down due to the failure in a vote of confidence since Slovenian declared independence from the former Yugoslavia in 1991.

However, the outgoing prime minister said here on Monday that he would seek another term at the next elections.
