The Turkish government has submitted to the parliament a motion for extending its authorization to stage cross-border military operations in Iraq, Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc said Monday.

The motion, which called for a one-year extension of the Turkish government’s authorization to stage cross-border operations in the north of Iraq and adjacent regions against PKK terror organization, was signed and sent to the parliament for approval, Arinc told reporters after a meeting of the Council of Ministers in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

The Turkish government received the authorization last year to stage cross-border land operations in Iraq, Arinc said, adding that the authorization would end on Oct. 17.

He expressed hopes that the motion would be one of the top agenda items of the Turkish parliament in its new legislative session starting from Oct. 1.
