Baku-APA. Iran and Russia agreed to establish a joint energy committee to expand bilateral cooperation, the English-language satellite Press TV reported Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

In a meeting on Sunday, Iranian Oil Minister Rostam Qasemi and Russian Energy Minister Sergei Shmatko stressed the necessity of collaboration in developing oil and gas fields and exchanging advanced technologies in different fields, said the report.

They also stressed the importance of speeding up the implementation of the joint energy roadmap, which was signed in 2010 outlining long-term energy cooperation in the upstream and downstream oil, gas and petrochemical sectors.

The ministers also expressed their opposition to the construction of any gas pipeline in the Caspian Sea due to environmental hazards, according to the report.
