Baku-APA. European Union foreign ministers met in Poland’s Baltic Sea resort of Sopot on Friday to seek a unified position on Palestinian statehood for a United Nations vote later this month, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The informal meeting of 27 ministers is chaired by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton. Poland’s Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski is co-hosting the informal meeting on behalf of the Polish EU presidency.

Ashton said the EU has not formed a unified position over the Palestinian problem, and the purpose of this meeting is to discuss the issue, not making any decisions.

The ministers also discussed support for Libya after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi and the peace process in the Middle East.

Before the start of a two-day informal meeting, Ashton voiced her concerns about the arrest and trial of Yulia Tymoshenko, former Ukraian prime minister and the opposition leader, in Ukraine.
