Baku-APA. Turkish foreign minister said on Saturday that he was expecting the Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV) to take place in Istanbul to voice a strong word against international economic inequalities, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Ahmet Davutoglu told reporters in Istanbul: "Our aim is to be the voice of international conscience, raise a global voice and maintain this voice for the following decade."

He said Turkey would again become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, and was willing to play a role that could change the paradigm of any issue when an issue was brought up in the UN system.

The Fourth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC-IV) will take place in Istanbul between May 9 and 13.

Turkey’s President Abdullah Gul and United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will make the opening remarks of the conference at Istanbul’s Lutfi Kirdar International Congress Center.

About 40 heads of state or government, 10 vice presidents, 94 ministers, 47 heads of international organizations are expected to attend the conference. Two papers, a political declaration and an action plan, are expected to be adopted at the end of the conference in order to pave the way for a road map for activities of the next decade.

There are 48 least developed countries in the world with a population of 950 million.
