Baku – APA. A popular French TV star and environmentalist on Wednesday announced his intention to run in the country’s 2012 presidential elections, APA reports quoting “The Voice of Americaâ€.
Nicolas Hulot is bidding for the Green Party nomination. The primaries are to be held in June.
Hulot made his name as a TV presenter of a long-running environmental program. A recent poll showed Hulot is one of France’s most popular public figures.
Current president and conservative leader Nicolas Sarkozy has not yet said whether he intends to run in the election.
Other candidates vying for the top political spot are Marine Le Pen of the political far right, and former Socialist party leader Francois Hollande.
