Baku-APA. Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini met on Tuesday with Ali ali-Isawi, diplomatic representative of Libya’s rebel Transitional National Council (TNC), and TNC military operation chief Abdel Fattah-Younis to discuss the ongoing crisis, a ministry official told Xinhua, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

The TNC envoys asked Italy and its allies to help Libyan rebels oust Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi by providing them with weapons and financial resources. The departure of Gaddafi remains the rebels’ sole condition for a ceasefire.

They hoped that some of Libya’s overseas financial assets and resources which have been frozen by the UN resolution would be freed and handed over to the TNC.

They also demand that Italy supply the TNC with intelligence and communication instruments and that NATO intensify its military operations in Libya.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maurizio Massari said Italy "theoretically agreed" with the TNC requests but that any decision would be taken together with the other allies involved in the Libyan crisis.
