French headscarf ban comes into force

Paris – APA. A veiled woman was arrested in Avignon railway station of France, APA reports. She was detained because appeared in a public place in headscarf. The woman was going to travel to Paris to participate in the TV program dedicated to headscarf ban in France. She said that the law on headscarf ban violated her freedom of faith. According to the new law, the detained veiled woman should pay 150 euro of fine and be involved in the obligatory courses for foreigners. Earlier about 60 protesters were detained in Paris, when they tried to hold a protest action against the headscarf ban.

The new law cause serious protest of the Muslim community. According to the law, men forcing their wives and daughters to wear headscarves will be fined for 30 000 euro, if the forced person is a girl under adolescent age, fine will be doubled. Muslim community warned that this law adopted on the initiative of President Nicolas Sarkozy will lead to confrontations between police and population. Osama bin Laden threatened France with a revenge.
