Nearly one third of Poles against nuclear plant in Poland: poll

Baku-APA. Thirty-two percent of Poles are against the construction of a nuclear plant in Poland while 30 percent think that Poland should go ahead with its nuclear energy development program, a PBS DGA poll showed on Thursday, AAP reports quoting Xinhua.

Twenty-eight percent of the respondents think that it is necessary to re-examine safety standards of any possible nuclear power plant in Poland and 10 percent do not have any opinion on the matter.

The left-wing Democratic Left Alliance (SLD) wants a referendum on the erection of a nuclear plant in Poland.

The construction of a nuclear plant in Poland must win public acceptance, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday.

Poland is determined to implement its nuclear energy development program despite the recent crisis in Japan, government commissioner in charge of nuclear energy Hanna Trojanowska said last week.

The Polish government wants the first nuclear plant to start operation in 2020.
