France recognized Libyan opposition’s National Transitional Council as the country’s only legitimate government

Consequently France breaks contact with Muammar Qaddafi regime.

France is the first European country which broke contact with Qaddafi. Before this, US President Barack Obama stated that colonel Qaddafi lost legitimacy. But Obama has not still recognized the organization established by the opposition as the legitimate government.

Qaddafi’s government in Tripoli calls the members National Transitional Council as spies and traitors. Qaddafi announced a reward on Wednesday for the capture of the head of the National Transitional Council of Libya, Mustafa Abdul Jalil. The General Administration for Criminal Investigation is offering 500,000 Libyan dinars ($410,900 U.S.) “for whoever captures and hands over” Abdul Jalil, and “another offer of 200,000 Libyan dinars ($164,300 U.S.) for whoever offers information leading to his actual arrest.

European Union states signed off on a new round of sanctions against allies of Libya’s regime Thursday, freezing the assets of companies including the country’s central bank. The EU imposed an arms embargo on the regime of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi and imposed visa bans and asset freezes on him and 25 key allies and relatives on February 28.
