Austria Arrests Ex-Bosnian General on Serb Warrant

Baku â€“ APA. Austrian police have arrested a former Bosnian army general on a warrant from Serbia, which wants him to face charges of war crimes related to the Bosnian conflict of the 1990s, APA reports quoting â€œThe Voice of Americaâ€.
Austria’s Interior Ministry confirmed Jovan Divjak was arrested Thursday night in Vienna after flying in from Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Serbia is seeking his extradition. The retired general is a born-Serb who defected to Bosnia’s Muslim-dominated army at the start of the conflict between the two sides. Officials say he is wanted in connection with an attack in Sarajevo on a Yugoslav army convoy.
Since his retirement from military service, Divjak has helped many war orphans get scholarships through a non-governmental organization he runs. Hundreds of Bosnians gathered in Sarajevo Friday to protest against his arrest, including some claiming to be beneficiaries of his charity.
