Slovenia suspends diplomatic visa liberalization deal with Libya

Baku-APA. Slovenia has decided to freeze temporarily an agreement with Libya on visa-free travel for diplomatic and service passport holders, local media reported Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.

Given the situation in Libya, implementing the deal on visa liberalization would contradict the principles of Slovenia’s foreign policy, the Slovenian Press Agency (STA) reported, quoting a government press release.

The decision does not violate the agreement, signed with Libya in July 2010, which says that the signatories have the right to abolish or temporary freeze it should its implementation affect their national security, the release said.

The Slovenian government made the announcement after the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Feb. 26 imposing sanctions against the Libyan authorities due to the growing violence in the North African country.
