Baku-APA. A Milan court on Thursday sentenced former Italian minister Aldo Brancher to two years in prison for misappropriating funds in the takeover battle for a bank, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.
Judges convicted Brancher of embezzlement and allegedly receiving illicit payments from bankers who sought his backing in their attempt to take over Banca Antonveneta in 2005.
According to local reports, Brancher’s lawyer Filippo Dinacci said he would appeal to the Court of Cassation, the highest court in the Italian judiciary.
Brancher served as a minister without portfolio in Premier Silvio Berlusconi’s government between June and July 2010, but was forced to resign due to the court case.
