Baku-APA. European leaders will gather in Brussels on March 11 to discuss the unfolding situation in Libya, according to European Union President Herman Van Rompuy, APA reports quoting Xinhua News Agency.
"In light of developments in EU’s southern neighborhood and especially in Libya, I convened extraordinary European Council on March 11," Van Rompuy said Tuesday in a statement.
The meeting will be held on the same day along with another emergency summit at which euro zone country leaders will discuss ways to boost the competitiveness of their economies in order to prevent any new debt crisis from rocking the euro.
The leaders are expected to deliver a comprehensive solution to put the lid on the lingering debt crisis, and decide the size, shape and scope of a permanent debt rescue fund for the euro zone at the March 11 special summit, and a following full summit of EU leaders on March 24.
