Baku. Victoria Dementieva - APA. Berlin will support the so-called Eastern Partnership, an EU program that aims to improve relations between the EU and six post-Soviet states, said German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the meeting of Polish, French and German leaders in Warsaw. "This is a deepening of our cooperation in the context of the EU, and deepening contact with our neighbors”, said Merkel. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said the Eastern Partnership program is not a route to membership. “But it will make the countries more compatible. We will work with the partner countries so that in practice they will be closer toward fulfilling EU criteria”, said Sikorski. The leaders of Germany, France and Poland agreed to further coordinate their countries’ security and defense policies within the framework of the European Union.
Azerbaijan is one of the six participating countries in the Eastern Partnership program.
