Denktashists accused in the relations with Ergenekon win the elections in Northern Cyprus

Lefkosha –APA. Oppositional National Unity Party (UBP) won the parliamentary elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. UBP led by former prime minister Dervish Eroglu won 44.01% of the votes, APA reports quoting the Turkish news agencies. Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer’s Republican Turkish Party (CTP), President Mehmet Ali Talat’s party won 29.17%, Democratic Party, led by former president Rauf Denktash’s son Serdar Denktash – 10.73 %, Pluralist Democratic Party (TDP) – 6.83%, Freedom and Reforms – 6.31%. Fiver parties exceeded the 5-percent barrier and won the seats in the parliament. UBP won 25 seats in the 50-seat parliament and got the right to form the government, but UBP needs in support of other party because one of its members will have non-party status as a chairman of the parliament. Probably DP will support it.
UBP supports the former president Rauf Denktash’s political course for the independence of Nortehrn Cyprus and confederation with Greek Cypriots. CTP follows the course of federation with the Greek Cypriots, which is supported by President Talat. During the election campaign CTP accused UBP in the relations with Ergenekon claimed to be a terrorist organization in Turkey.
