Number of arrests within 12th wave of Ergenekon expected to reach 62

Ankara â€“ APA. The 12th wave of arrests over â€œErgenekonâ€, the terrorist organization in Turkey, covered Ankara, Istanbul, Trabzon, Antalya, Mersin, Adana, Izmir, Bursa, Samsun, Giresun, Diyarbakir, Shanliurfa, Van and Gars, APA reports quoting Turkish news agencies. Professors â€“ owner and rector of Bashkent University Mehmet Haberal, rector of Giresun University Osman Metin Ozturk, former rector of Bursa Uludag University, acting chairman of Ataturk Thought Society Mustafa Yurdguran, former rector of Samsun 19 May University Ferid Bernay, former rector of Malatya Inonu University Fatih Hilmioglu, writer of Cumhuriyyet newspaper, economist Erol Manisali, member of Executive Committee of Dogan Gazetecilik Tijen Mergen and other were arrested during the operations. Their houses and offices were searched, a lot of documents, written materials, hard disks, CDs were confiscated. The number of those arrested will reportedly reach 62.

Hundreds of people were arrested in the 11 waves of Ergenekon arrests within a year and a half. The arrest of some was commuted later. Two indictments have been prepared over Ergenekon. Hearing on the first indictment continues.
