Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s energy security has fully been provided and this is very important component of national security, said the SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev in his article published in Azerbaijan newspaper.
According to the article, as a result of works carried out after signing of the “Contract of the Century”, gas production dynamically increased from 5.6 bcm in 2004 to 29.5 bcm in 2013: “Yearly increase of gas resources is provided by three sources. The first source is associated gas from Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli fields block. 32.3 bcm of gas extracted since 1997 handed over to Azerbaijani government and assumed importance for meeting domestic demand. The Second source is gas from Shahdeniz. This field has produced 54.4 bcm of gas and 14 mln tonnes of condensate since it was put into operation. The third source is gas from fields where SOCAR works independently. Compared to 2005, our company’s gas production doubled to 7.14 bcm”.
The article also says that great successes have been achieved as a result of exploration and drilling activities during past years: “In 1998, Ashrafi and Karabakh field were discovered. It was revealed that as a result of exploration and 3D seismic works, the oil and gas in ACG are two times more than considered. Umid and Absheron fields are also put into operation. However, the greatest success is discovery of Shahdeniz in 1999. Reserves of this field make 1.2 trillion cm of gas adn 240 mln tonnes of condensate”.
