Abdullayev said that as a result of work done on Shahdeniz project since 2006, the country introduced itself to the international market as a new alternative natural gas supplier. Signing of final investment decision on Shahdeniz 2 has been a new step in the development of this sphere. Timely implementation of large-scale projects allowed increasing gas production to 29.5 bcm from 5.5 bcm in 2004.

In 2013, 13.3 bcm of gas was delivered to the gas transportation system of Azerbaijan. Capacity of gas storehouses makes 5 bcm while it was 800 mcm before. 3.5 bcm of gas was accumulated in the gas storehouses.

At the same time, gas supply reached 89.8% in 2013, 99% of Baku and 83.4% of the regions were supplied with gas. The number of subscribers supplied with gas is more than 1.6 million, while it was below 700,000 in 2004. For this purpose, 4,800 km-main gas pipelines, 25,000 km-transporting lines have been constructed, nearly 8,000 km-pipelines have capitally been repaired.

Abdullayev also noted that according to order on writing off debts as of October 1, 2009, AZN 327 mln debt of the population have been written off.
