Baku hosts signing ceremony of final investment agreement on Shah Deniz-2 project - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

The ceremony started with the speech of Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev. He called it a significant day in the history of Azerbaijan. The Head of State underlined that Shah Deniz is one of the biggest energy projects of the world.

On June 28, Azerbaijan officially announced the selection of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) for natural gas deliveries to Europe. TAP pipeline will deliver Azerbaijan’s gas to Italy through Turkey, Greece and Albania. Total cost of the project is approximately $2.2bn.

The prime ministers of Albania, Bulgaria, Georgia and Croatia delivered speeches at the meeting and spoke about the importance of the project. Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili said that Azerbaijan had become a very important country in the production and transportation of energy resources. He noted that this step is only the beginning of multilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
