Azerbaijan studies practice of Statoil against oil spill in Caspian Sea

APA reports that the seminar was attended by representatives of relevant state bodies and international oil companies operating in Azerbaijan.

Experts of Statoil and Norwegian Clean Seas Association for Operating Companies have made speeches about management structure on struggle against oil spills in Norway based on the real researches in the North Sea.

Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations Etibar Mirzeyev noted that Caspian Basin Accident-Rescue Service has established cooperation with BP against oil spills.

Deputy Country Manager of Statoil Azerbaijan Oddvar Samuelsberg said cooperation with the MES in he struggle against oil spills will be effective. Advisor of Statoil on preparation for emergency situations related to struggle against oil spills Lars Brekke has made a speech on “Economic feasibility of oil spills: method of Norway”. He noted that there is a relevant state body on oil security and Norwegian Coastal Administration.

He also spoke about the works conducted about oil spills in North Sea. Etibar Mirzeyev asked how Statoil establishes cooperation with fire-fighters. L. Brekke said they have list of dangers and accidents: “If a fire occurs in any platform, that platform will have relevant plan. At the same time, the operating company should withdraw the people from the platform. For this purpose, we have 6 helicopters. We can arrive in the site in an hour. People are main factor for us”.

Statoil Azerbaijan’s Manager for healthy, labor security and environment said that Statoil has a great experience in management of oil spills and is ready to share its experience with Azerbaijan. oil and gas projects implemented by foreign countries in the Caspian Sera cause oil spill: “We believe that this seminar will contribute to the State Plan on Struggle against oil spills in Azerbaijan”.
