BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey Gordon Birrell said that new D-05 platform is the largest platform in the Caspian Sea: “Start of production in West Chirag platform is a significant event in the exploitation of AGC block”.

According to him, the platform was commissioned yesterday and it transported oil to the pipelines: “we are satisfied with these works. These works have been done taking all security measures into account”.

Birell said that Azerbaijani employees have done these works: “This platform has been produced in Azerbaijan in accordance with the world standards”.

Birell noted that 14 well were drilled during the past period and 6 of them will be launched this year, others in 2015-2016: “However, we can drill additional wells except 14 well”.

BP official added that the platform started to operate with 3,000 barrels production: “Certainly, this volume will be increased gradually. After tests and calculations, it will be known how much oil the platform will produce” According to our initial calculations, daily production from this platform will be 60,000 barrels, annual production – 3 mln tonnes. We try to stabilize our production”.

Birell also noted that BP will need such new platforms or fields by 2019-2021 to stabilize production and prevent production reduction: “However, it’s needed a lot of and stable financial funds”.
