"Green energy corridors are an effective means for large-scale transmission of renewable energy and utilizing high-potential energy sources located far from consumption centers," said Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov during the High-Level Roundtable on Green Energy, Hydrogen, and Global Energy Reserves and Networks at COP29, APA reports.
The minister noted that Azerbaijan's three energy initiatives, consisting of five components, provide specific solutions that support the successful implementation of COP28 commitments to triple renewable energy and double energy efficiency. One of these initiatives is the "Green Energy Pledge," which promotes the creation of green energy corridors and zones.
He also mentioned that regional cooperation, the establishment of appropriate regulatory frameworks, ensuring sustainable financing opportunities, as well as increasing the production of HVDC cables, are key priorities for the development of green energy corridors.
"Azerbaijan is currently implementing projects such as the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe, Central Asia-Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan-Türkiye-Europe corridors. These corridors reflect Azerbaijan's intent to not only lead in energy exports but also in global sustainable development," he added.
