OMV Gas&Power Regional manager: “Azerbaijan can transport gas for Nabucco without gas contract with Turkey about gas transportation - INTERVIEW
- Several companies are negotiating with SOCAR for transporting gas via Nabucco pipeline. The OMV is a leader of Nabucco consortium and is very active on going negotiations about gas transportation via Nabucco.
- Is it planned to come into agreement about the laying-in of oil for Nabucco project?
- Obviously it is not us only who is setting dates. We are in talks with Socar, With relevant authorities, with Shakh-Deniz Consortium. And of course the progress of negotiations does not depend only on us, it depends on our cooperation.
And we are very confident that the upcoming transit agreement between Turkey and Azerbaijan will be a major step forward for the possibilities of Azerbaijani exports and for the realization of Nabucco.
- If the contract won’t be signed, how will it has impact on the realization of Nabbuco? Is it possible the implementation of project in this situation?
- Nabucco does have intergovernmental agreement that regulates transit through Turkey. That means that Azerbaijan can already now, if without a bilateral agreement, transit gas through Turkey in the Nabucco pipeline. We have a stable politic framework of intergovernmental agreement signed last July in Turkey. But It will impact positively on realization of the project.
- How are the frames of realization of project, now?
- The timeframe of the realization on Nabucco is late of 2014. And it is important to understand that Nabucco is a multisourcing project, it is not relied on one particular source only. Nabucco is relied on gas supply from several sources. Azerbaijan of course is key important and we really hope to get Azerbaijan in that.
- Is the gas transportation co-ordinated from Turkmenistan and Iraq for Nabucco? Will Iran be joint project?
- We are talking to Turkmenistan and believe that actually Turkmenistan is ready and open to supply gas to EU through Nabucco.
Regarding Iran, Iran is at the moment not relevant supplier for Nabucco for political reasons. In the long run, however Iran has gas recourses, there is demand in Europe. We will continue to monitor the situation, but for this particular time Iran is not consider as a supplier.
OMV is active on exploration production business in Northern Iraq. And we very confident to get significant supplies out of Northern Iraq through Nabucco
