Gas deliveries to several towns, including Akhadayevsk and Gaytagsk, northern Derbent, most parts of Tabasaran were suspended.

The pipeline takes gas from Caspian fields in Azerbaijan to the Russian heartland through the turbulent North Caucasus.

The pipeline has started to transport Azerbaijani gas to Russia starting from 1 January 2010.

In Dagestan, a transport hub for oil and gas supplies from neighboring Azerbaijan, explosions on or nearby pipelines happen periodically, often not affecting supplies to Russian cities such as Moscow, as well as Europe.
