Ambassador: Azerbaijan- Russia gas pipeline well-protected

Baku. Victoria Dementieva-APA. The security of the gas pipeline Azerbaijan and Russia will be provided as the security of other pipelines, said Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin.

According to him, all the issues on the sale of gas between the two countries have already been agreed on.

"Russia is starting to buy gas from Azerbaijan (from January 1), all conditions have been agreed. One of the main points is the security. In principle, the security of this pipeline will be provided as the security of our other pipelines. Most part of the pipeline is laid under the ground but some parts are on the surface. Necessary protection is already provided,â€ he added.

Under an agreement signed between SOCAR and Gazprom, Azerbaijan will start exporting at least 500 million cubic meters of natural gas per year to Russia as from January 1, 2010.
