Germany’s RWE takes interest in projects in the Caspian region

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev - APA-ECONOMICS. Rovnag Abdullayev, President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), has today met with the delegation of the Germany-based RWE in Baku.

Rovnag Abdullayev briefed the delegation about the successes achieved in recent years in the energy projects of regional and global scale, noted that there are ample opportunities between SOCAR and RWE for cooperation, said SOCAR in a statement.

Leo Birnbaum, a member of the executive board of RWE AG, and business development and strategy officer of RWE Group talked about the companyâ€™s areas of businesses, and successful business in East Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Eastern Europe.

He added that the company intends to further strengthen its position in Europe and from this perspective, is interested in projects in the Caspian Basin, Turkey and the CIS.

He said that RWE would be pleased to participate as a partner of SOCAR in projects in Azerbaijan and abroad.

The parties also held discussion about the Nabucco gas project which is expected to play an important role in the energy security of Europe.
