Azerbaijan may supply 1 billion cubic meters of gas to Greece per year

Baku. Rashad Suleymanov - APA-ECONOMICS. Azerbaijan’s Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev has met in Baku with Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Spyridon Kouvelis who is a co-chair of the Azerbaijani-Greek Intergovernmental Committee on Economic, Industrial and Technological Cooperation.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation in the sphere of industry and energy, said the ministry in a statement.

Natig Aliyev noted that Greece is the first EU member country which directly exports Azeri gas.

Regarding the prospects for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas from Shah Deniz Phase 2, Natig Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is able to supply about 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year to Greece.

Spyridon Kouvelis added that Greece is interested in importing Azeri gas from Shah Deniz Phase 2.

They also discussed the possibility of alternative and renewable sources of energy, and the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee. It was decided that the next meeting may be held in the first quarter of 2010.
